By International Cable Protection Committee
March 20, 2024
On 10-12 October 2024, the first Symposium on Subsea Cable Security and Resilience will be held at Valentia Island's historic Transatlantic Cable Station.
Under the umbrella topic of “Subsea Cable Security and Resilience: Past, Present and Future”, the Valentia Island Symposium Team, made up of international researchers and individuals from within the subsea cable global industry, seek proposals for presentations that will contribute to ongoing efforts to ensure the security and resilience of subsea communications cables. This includes insights into how subsea cables are protected and made secure and resilient, as well as improvements through technology or other processes. Abstracts are also welcomed regarding how subsea cables contribute to the resilience of communities and the environment. Taking a broad historical perspective, the symposium also seeks to learn how lessons from the past can inform how we consider the security and resilience of subsea communications cables today and in the future.
The symposium especially invites presentations that focus on:
- The contribution of history and knowledge development to subsea cable security and resilience.
- Historical perspectives on subsea cable security and resilience.
- Historical trends in cable faults, and relevant analysis.
- The implications of any new requirements and arrangements relating to security and resilience of subsea cable systems.
- Technological developments relating to the security and resilience of subsea cable systems.
- Public-private cooperation around subsea cable security and resilience in a heightened geopolitical context – understanding roles and responsibilities.
- The nexus between secure and resilient subsea systems and resilient communities and the environment.
- International law issues.
- Subsea communications cables: What does the future hold?
