Sterling, VirginiaSubmarine Telecoms Forum, Inc. is pleased to announce the release of the 53rd edition of the Submarine Cable Almanac, an essential reference guide for the global submarine cable industry. Since its inception as a quarterly publication in 2011, the Almanac has served as the industry's premier resource, providing a comprehensive overview of over 500 existing and planned domestic and international submarine cable systems.

What’s New in This Edition?

This latest issue features 11 newly added cable systems and 17 system updates, ensuring the most current and accurate data for industry professionals. A significant update in this edition is the organization of cable systems by age, offering valuable insights into the operational lifespan of global networks.

System Age Overview:

  • 52 planned systems are set to be deployed in the near future.
  • 70 systems (19%) are between 0-5 years old.
  • 70 systems (17%) are between 6-10 years old.
  • 70 systems (17%) are between 11-15 years old.
  • 189 systems (47%) have been in operation for 16+ years.

The Submarine Cable Almanac is developed using publicly available, commercial, and scientific data sources, integrated into SubTel Forum’s proprietary Submarine Cable Database. This ensures comprehensive and up-to-date tracking of clients, projects, system lengths, capacities, landing points, and regional distributions. Additionally, maps within the Almanac are produced using ArcGIS Pro, maintaining alignment with the Submarine Cables of the World print map.
