December 5, 2019
Vocus today announced that it has entered a contract with the Barossa Joint Venture to build, operate and own a high-capacity submarine fibre optic network for the proposed Barossa offshore gas project in the Bonaparte Basin, to the north of Darwin.
Group Managing Director and CEO of Vocus, Kevin Russell, stated, “We are pleased to build upon our position as Australia’s specialist fibre and network solutions provider. We have developed a highly robust and resilient architecture that will support Barossa and connect to our existing submarine cable assets off the North-West coast of Australia. Vocus has contracted the specialist and highly experienced Alcatel Submarine Networks for cable manufacture and marine works.
The solution developed for the Barossa Project is the design, manufacture and installation of a 500km cable loop, the Bonaparte Basin Cable Loop (BBCL), which will be integrated into the 2,100km Vocus North West Cable System. Following a three-year design and construction phase, Vocus would hold a minimum 15-year service term for the operation and maintenance of the network.
Alain Biston, President of Alcatel Submarine Networks said, “We are delighted to continue our cooperation with Vocus with a view to supply oil and gas companies with state-of-the-art and reliable submarine networking in Australia. For offshore projects such as Barossa, this infrastructure is an important element in driving a range of reliability, productivity and safety outcomes through the provision of reliable and cost-effective network infrastructure solutions.”
Concluded Mr Russell, “Vocus has established a clear differentiation in the market through our commitment to major infrastructure projects, and our unique capability to address these opportunities. We have an excellent record of delivering these projects on time, on budget and built to specification.”
