Equinix To Connect Vocus Subsea Cable In Australia And Singapore

By Sam Varghese, ITWireInterconnection and data centre company Equinix has announced that the Australia Singapore Cable, owned by Vocus, will be accessible in its International Business Exchange date centres in Singapore and six Australian metropolitan cities.
The latter will include the Cable Landing Station in Perth and points of presence in Sydney and Melbourne that have already been announced.
A statement from Equinix said the ASC would add more PoPs to its facilities in Singapore, Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra, Adelaide and Brisbane.
This extended access would enable Equinix to meet customer demands for interconnection and networking capabilities with businesses between Australia and Southeast Asia.
The ASC is a 4600-km subsea cable that will connect Singapore and Australia and is expected to be completed and operational by the first quarter of the financial year 2019.
It will provide a new pathway from Western Australia to Southeast Asia, additional capacity and also serve to boost the strength of Australia’s Internet landscape.
Vocus Group chief executive Kevin Russell said the company was delighted that Equinix was expanding the reach and availability of the ASC cable by connecting it directly into nine sites across Australia and Singapore.
“The Vocus terrestrial network has vast reach throughout Australia, New Zealand and now into Asia. Combining the extensive interconnection ecosystems in Equinix, with the far-reaching Vocus network, we will provide customers with easy and low-cost access to all of their partners from Singapore to major metropolitan cities in Australia,” he said.
