Vietnamese operator VNPT has announced it has invested USD 12 million in the AAE-1 submarine cable and will receive a total capacity of 1.29Tbps. The operator says Vietnam’s international connectivity will be upgraded once VNPT’s internet service via the Asia-Africa-Europe-1 (AAE-1) is launched in July.

The AAE-1 is a 23,000 kilometre consortium cable system connecting Southeast Asia to Europe via Egypt. It connects Hong Kong, Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand with Malaysia and Singapore then onwards to Myanmar, India, Pakistan, Oman, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Yemen, Djibouti, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Greece, Italy and France.

The cable system deploys 100 Gbps transmission technology with minimum design capacity of 40 Tbps.
