Italian broadband operator Fastweb has signed an agreement with MENA Submarine Cable System to implement a protected backhauling capacity connection along the entire Italian peninsula up to the Caldera business park in Milan. MENA, a subsidiary of Orascom Telecom Media and Technology, owns and operates a submarine telecommunications system connecting Europe to the Middle East and Southeast Asia. The agreement with Fastweb will allow MENA-SCS to carry traffic coming from the Far East, India, the Middle East and Egypt to the neutral hub in Milan before being distributed to the main European Internet Exchanges. Fastweb's infrastructure will connect Mazara del Vallo in Sicily to Milan, running for 1,300 km up the Tyrrhenian coast and 1,800 km up the Adriatic coast.
